General (political statement of goals, objectives, views, philosophies)

For the last 17 years, I have been employed as a public defender attorney and have learned how to become a public advocate. I have learned compassion for those who are disadvantaged and have lost hope in government. The people of the 30th district need an elected official who will serve as their advocate. As an attorney, I represent those who are afflicted with mental illness, the homeless, the poor, and those suffering from drug addiction. I also represent youth who are being held in contempt of court for not attending school. I choose to give them a voice as they face legal challenges. Every day, I see how our laws and budget cuts have adversely affected this population.I often ask myself, “Why doesn’t someone change the laws in Olympia.” Olympia needs to hear the message of the poor and disadvantaged. I will serve as their voice. There is a song written by Bill Withers entitled, “Lean on Me.” An important line from the song states, “Lean on me, when you’re not strong, I’ll be your friend, and I’ll help you carry on…We all need somebody to lean on.” Throughout my 17 years in public defense, I have become a friend to those who are not strong. By being their advocate in Olympia, I will help them carry on.
